Panaghiusa Phl. Network condemns another killing of Teduray leader

On April 29, 2024, Juanito Promboy, 48, an Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Barangay Tuayan in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur province was killed while riding a motorbike going back home to Barangay Limpongo as their evacuation center from his duties at the barangay hall in broad daylight at 2 pm. The assailants are unnamed. He was the 65th non-Moro Indigenous People (IP) leader slain in Maguindanao Del Norte and Maguindanao Del Sur since 2018.

According to Timuay Labi Leticio Datuwata of the Teduray-Lambangian tribe, Promboy was greatly involved in defending their ancestral lands against land grabbers and other issues that the Teduray Lambangan tribe is facing.

Panaghiusa Phl. Network supports the Timuay Justice and Governance to seek justice for  Juanito Promboy and other IP leaders who were killed. We call on the government and the Commission on Human Rights to investigate the continuing killings in the Province of Maguindanao.
